Seasonal changes in mycophagous insect communities

چکیده

The phenology of fungal fruiting has changed in the UK over last 70 years, but whether associated mycophagous insects are able to exploit 'out season' fruit bodies is unknown. This study focused on baits can be used as a proxy examine changes insect communities. Using Agaricus bisporus bait, mushrooms were placed into two separate woodlands monthly from November 2020 July 2021. Megaselia rufipes (Phoridae) and Bradysia spp. (Sciaridae) reared both wild fungi at different times, making them appropriate species consider for possible host tracking. Various factors affect an insect's ability track host, these include preference, season, period age mushroom. Increased macrofungi future may benefit generalist insects, by providing enhanced temporal spatial resource opportunities. effects climate change should beneficial uncovering preferences potentially indicate hosts across seasons.

Seasonal changes in the assembly mechanisms structuring tropical fish communities.

Despite growing interest in trait-based approaches to community assembly, little attention has been given to seasonal variation in trait distribution patterns. Mobile animals can rapidly mediate influences of environmental factors and species interactions through dispersal, suggesting that the relative importance of different assembly mechanisms can vary over short time scales. This study analy...

Influence of public road proximity on ground-dwelling insect communities

Ecological studies on road’s impact on wildlife have concentrated on vertebrates although less is known of their effects on invertebrates. The current study presents public road influences on species richness, abundance, and diversity of ground dwelling insects in Arusha National Park in Tanzania. Values from pitfall traps data were generally higher in core habitat than road verge. Nine species...

Fungal DNA virus infects a mycophagous insect and utilizes it as a transmission vector.

Mycoviruses are usually transmitted horizontally via hyphal anastomosis and vertically via sexual/asexual spores. Previously, we reported that a gemycircularvirus, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum hypovirulence-associated DNA virus 1 (SsHADV-1), could infect its fungal host extracellularly. Here, we discovered that SsHADV-1 could infect a mycophagous insect, Lycoriella ingenua, and use it as a transmis...

Aggregation in cattle dung-colonizing insect communities

Background Ruminant dung is a highly ephemeral, patchily distributed resource, which is utilized by a diverse community of invertebrate species. This ecologically important community may be affected adversely by insecticide and endectocide residues in the faeces of treated cattle. The aim of the present work was to quantify the aggregation of the insects colonising cow-dung in cattle pastures a...

Wolbachia in two insect host-parasitoid communities.

Wolbachia form a group of intracellular bacteria that alter reproduction in their arthropod hosts. Two major phylogenetic subdivisions (A and B) of Wolbachia occur. Using a polymerase chain reaction assay we surveyed for the A and B group Wolbachia in 82 insect species from two temperate host-parasitoid communities (food webs) and a general collection of Lepidoptera caught at a light trap. One ...
